LAGO DELIGHT Encosta De Lago/Sweet Delight Bombora Downs, Bittern Victoria |
Lago Delight was a brilliant racehorse who was a metropolitan winner at two years of age and a Group winner at three years of age. A natural runner with an explosive burst of speed saw him run 57.65 on a slow track at his 2yo first start at Flemington over 1000m winning by almost three lengths. The Mitchell McKenzie stakes at Moonee Valley was Lago Delight's second start and again he won convincingly, clocking the same time that multiple Group 1 winner Yell ran that day when winning the McEwan Trophy, a brilliant effort by a young, up-and-coming star. |
Three weeks later Lago Delight ran a gallant 2nd by a nose in the second fastest G2 Ascot Vale Stakes (now Group 1) ever run - a blistering 1.08.8 finishing lengths ahead of Dilly Dally (third) Face Value, Keep the Faith and Roedean. Quality Bloodlines & Group Winners Galore! Lago Delight truly has the qualities to make a superb sire - natural speed, terrific power and impeccable genes, being the son of Australian Champion Sire Encosta De Lago and of Group Winning race mare and Group Winning producer, Sweet Delight, daughter of Champion Sprinter and Sire Rancho Ruler. Furthermore, Sweet Delight's 1st and 2nd Dams have only produced winners. Lago Delight's older half brother Tycoon Ruler (by Last Tycoon) was a dual metropolitan 2yo winner and also a Group player in his three year old year, with 2nd placings in the G1 Australian Guineas, the G2 Alister Clark Stakes and the G3 C.S. Hayes Stakes. At four years of age Tycoon Ruler capped off a stellar career with wins in the Rupert Clark Stakes (L) and Bill Adams Stakes (L) and is now at stud in Queensland. He is already doing incredibly well with 41% runners to winners from only two crops to race. Progeny Success With only a handful of runners in his first season as a sire, Lago Delight has produced a Stakes Placegetter in Palzago (3rd Blue Diamond Preview, behind Reaan the eventual Blue Diamond Winner) together with 2yo winners ranging between 1200 and 1600 metres. But it is apparent now as three year olds, that Lago Delight's progeny are starting to shine, with three individual winners in three weeks; Bumboulina winning first up over 1300m by an impressive five lengths, Palzago winning over 1200m and Perlight, winning at her second start, in a 3YO & Up fillies & mares race by three lengths. Guildford Lad at just his second start won over 1100 metres, leading all the way as did Primo Lago when winning over 1210m. Primo Lago ran over 1 second faster than three other races the same distance that day at Mornington. Lisas Lago, who won over 1600m as a two year old, has continued on to win two races as a three old at Sandown, over 1800m and 1400m. In both of these impressive wins, she has boldly lead the field and treated the ever-feared rise in the Sandown straight with contempt, showing incredible strength and endurance. Nkwazi's Son is another great success story, winning his first three starts at Devonport - the initial win by an incredible 8 lengths! He is a natural speedster and has won by leading and also sitting off the pace. Most of Lago Delight's progeny winners have either led or sat just off the pace, using their natural speed early, sprinting clear on the turn, and continuing to extend their lead at the winning post, promosing great times ahead for their lucky owners. |
