RANCHO RULER Australian Champion Older Sprinter 1988/89 Rancher/No No Nanette |
A Group 1 Winner who was crowned Champion Older Sprinter for the 1988-1989 season, Rancho Ruler earned in excess of 1 Million dollars prizemoney - an incredible achievment for a sprinter of that era. Rancho Ruler has an impeccable race record - as a 2YO, he made history by winning the G2 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington at his first race start. Amazingly, his second start was even more impressive, when, still just a 2YO, he ran fourth in the G1 Lightning Stakes behind superstars Placid Ark, Special and Canny Lass - something unheard of in today's racing. This was followed by second placings in the G1 Blue Diamond and G1 VRC Sires Produce Stakes. |
As a three year old, Rancho also had second placings in the G1 Oakleigh Plate, the G1 Rothmans 100,000 and the G1 Elders Hcp and won the G2 Stereo 10 Lightning Hcp at Eagle Farm. By this time, Rancho Ruler had become a definite crowd favourite and had become affectionately known as "Rancho". In the spring of 1988 in his four year old year, Rancho won a string of Victoria's top sprint races including the G2 Chirnside Stakes, the G2 Memsie Stakes and the G2 Manikato Skates (now G1), culminating with a resounding victory in the G1 Marlboro Cup (now Dubai Racing Club Cup) at Caulfield. Even more impressive, was his brilliant effort to lead the field from barrier 16 and win by two lengths. A Group 1 Winner from his First Crop Rancho Ruler certainly didn't disappoint in the breeding barn, with Pride of Rancho winning the G1 VRC Sires Produce Stakes, coming from last on the turn and finishing with a blistering last 400 metres. In total, Rancho Ruler had 313 winners from 512 runners (61%) including 14 stakes winners and was known as one of the most consistent sires of the 1990's, with Group winners such as Pride of Rancho (G1 Sires Produce), French Clock (G1 Goodwood Hcp) Delsole, New Smyrna, Sweet Delight, Little Dozer, Ocean Ranch, Alacqua, Rancho's Coup, Rancho Spark and Dancing Sculptor. |
